Located near Lake Washington, we are in the early design phases for a new custom home on a challenging site. The proposed design solution takes advantage of sweeping views of Lake Washington and Mt. Rainier while also working with the owners’ desire for observance of certain Feng Shui principles. The modulation of the 3-story home creates a more human scale experience with multiple outdoor spaces to take in the views. An attached ADU allows for an increase in square footage under Seattle’s new floor-area-ratio requirement.
Early in the process, we developed a 3D model of the site and surrounding context to show existing homes and their potential development options so we could maximize protected views. The site includes both a steep slope and landslide hazard area. This required a geotechnical soils analysis and careful consideration of the home’s size and location so we can properly design the new foundation and site stabilization system. As we move into design development, we’ll continue to refine the design and start studying material options, interior spaces and overall form.
