Located north of Seattle in Lake Forest Park, this small DADU (Detached Accessory Dwelling Unit) is nestled in the wooded backyard of an existing single-family residence.
A perfect retreat for visiting guests, the “garden cottage” can also serve as a peaceful space for remote working or can open up as auxiliary space for backyard parties!

The light and airy interior palette is paired with a darker exterior, with materials carefully chosen for their low-maintenance and extended durability. Lunawood siding wraps the upper floor, and will gray out gracefully over time. It is complimented by a metal roof, painted cement board and clad windows and doors. The DADU was carefully sited to mitigate impacts to adjacent mature trees while also providing easy access from the main house and preserving privacy for both structures.

Only 675sf total, the upper floor includes a sleeping area, small seating area and a bathroom. A kitchenette and wardrobe wrap two sides of the bathroom. The lower level includes a mechanical/storage space and a flex room that can double as a den or home office.

Affectionately called the “Garden Cottage” by our clients, this DADU is tucked into the corner of the backyard and is the perfect place for visiting relatives or a quiet work-from-home spot.
