Starlight Cabin

Located in the Nelson Preserve area of Suncadia, this home is designed to be adaptable – whether it’s just the homeowners for a quick weekend away or hosting larger groups at the holidays. The topography of the site allows for an accessible, single-story main level with a walk-out partial level below for guests and family. The main living spaces and generous deck are sited for solar access and to pick up views beyond while deep overhangs provide protection from from the elements. Accessed from a ship ladder behind the kitchen is a secret star-gazing tower, a cozy spot for both children (and adults remembering their childhood!) to enjoy. The house is composed of simple and timeless forms, reinterpreted in a modern way. The main gable roof of the home has exposed structure on the interior, with a large skylight over the dining area and structural tension rods that go from inside to out. Durable materials, such as board-formed concrete, steel paneling and stained cedar siding make up the exterior palette.
