In addition to the basement and loft, we’ll be taking on one more interior project this year:
Yup, we’re going to have a baby!ย The littlest Zerbey is due at the end of July and we can’t wait!

Congratulations. That is wonderful news!
wow, congratulations!! I’ve been following your blog for about a year now, and I’m excited to see the changes the new little baby will bring ๐
Wow, Congrats! I’m really looking forward to seeing how you start to incorporate “kid things” into your house. I have a daughter and I struggle all the time between keeping my house clean and modern and letting her toys conquer the space. Yay!
What wonderful news! Congratulations to all of the Zerbey’s!!
Congratulations! What wonderful news, and I can’t wait to see how the nursery turns out. Best of luck on this next awesomely big adventure!

Aw! A little Leo – the BEST kind of baby!
Congratulations! How exciting for you two!
Zerbebe wins the day!!!!! Congrats to you both!
Congrats!! So exciting!
Wow! Congratulations! That’s very exciting news. ๐
There has been an incredible number of bloggers who’ve announced their pregnancies within the last few weeks….. anyway, I look forward to seeing how you’ll incorporate baby stuff into your gorgeous house!
Congratulations! Very happy for you!!!
Congratulations! That is so exciting!
Congratulations! All the best to all of the Zerbeys!
That’s so exciting! Congratulations! I can’t wait to see the nursery progress too! ๐
just like dad, Aug 2nd, who knows might be a birthday present
Congratulations! No wonder you need another room and bath in the basement. Just be sure to not over do it during the construction.
Thanks Benjamin, it’s definitely going to be a challenge but we’re up for it!
Yup!
Haha, yep…TV needs a new home! =) We left the basement project for now b/c we figured it was something that Kyle could mostly tackle on his own.
Thanks, that post is already bookmarked!
Oh really? I’d love links…I’m all for following other bloggers and checking out what they’re planning.
Haha, Kyle came up with that a while back and it’s been baby Zerbey’s unofficial nickname.
Congratulations!! Great news!!
Congrats!! So excited for you guys! ๐
Congrats!! So excited for you guys!! =)
Hurray! Congrats, that is wonderful news.
And love the pride of Leos thing, too! My husband and I are 7/31 and 8/1, baby 1 is 8/20, and baby 2 is due 8/12. Our anniversary is that month too. I think eventually we’ll have to just have a carnival every August. It’s a terrific time of year to have a baby because you get a few months of decent weather for walking a non-napping newborn before it cools off/gets wet, and then they aren’t really mobile enough for the winter to matter.
Thanks Kate (and congrats on baby #2)! We’re in a similar boat. Kyle’s b-day is 8/2, mine is 9/19 and our anniversary is 9/25! I *am* excited about the timing – Aug.-Sept. are usually the best months here and since it never gets that hot (knock on wood) I won’t have to be miserable in June/July!
My husband is 8/14 and I’m 8/15, but he’s a year older. It’s birthday week at our house!
aw, congrats to you! what exciting news!
Super exciting! Congrats.
thanks guys, actually I hadn’t seen this link, nice post. If you noticed, Lauren wasn’t drinking at the conference;) Actually I was slyly double drinking for her;)
Congrats! Can’t wait to see all the fun changes!
Congrats!!!! My b-day is 8/18; children are 7/4, 7/19 and 8/7 and wedding anniv 7/10. July rocks for a birthday but Aug is a close second. Hoping you have an easy comfortable pregnancy.
delurking to say CONGRATS!
We’re in the middle of a large renovation with two little boys, age 4 and 2, and while there are times I question the sanity of our decision, more often than not we have a ball working on it all together. My eldest can now hammer nails and drive in fasteners with the electric screwdriver almost as well as I can.
I hope you are not feeling sickly!
Congratulations! I’ve been following your blog from Philadelphia for a while now, and look forward to seeing how you transform your flex room. I’m an architect as well, and my wife and I are expecting our first child (due) July 20th. We have a 1940’s Cape Cod just outside the city and have been doing renovations since we moved in 2 years ago. Having a non-architect wife makes it harder to make decisions sometimes, and I show her your projects to help plead my case from time to time. Look forward to updates as you create your nursery.
Thanks Amber! We still have plenty of projects down the road and look forward to passing on the hammer. =) (Actually, I already texted Kyle a photo of the kid’s workbench on a trip to IKEA a while back.)
I’m feeling pretty good! I don’t want to jinx it, but I seem to have evaded the whole morning sickness thing.
Thanks Paul and congrats! Our due dates are so close (we’re on the 28th). Kyle and I have already butted heads a few times on ideas for the nursery, but furniture is the one area where we sometimes butt heads. =) Now we just have to do the basement project so we can empty out the flex room!
Wow! Congratulations!
So fun! Congrats from a fellow Leo Seattleite! Absolutely can’t wait to see how you guys transform your space to accommodate the little mr. or miss
super excited for you two! my younger daughter is july 26th and i had her during that heat wave we had the summer of 09 (i’m in olympia). nothing like a newborn *insisting* she be burrito’d up in a blankie when it’s 100 degrees outside. ๐
in other news: on your recommendation i went with warmly yours for radiant heat in my basement bath and it’s super fab! i’m planning on using them again for my main bath, and my contractor now has a new source (he hadn’t heard of them and couldn’t believe the great prices).
Congratulations! I’m excited to see your nursery ideas! You obviously don’t know me, but I “know” your home and constantly torture my husband with “someday I want this…”, followed by an image from your blog.
she’s talking about the rocking chair specifically;) I think we’re on the same page with everything else. I want the monte rocker!
Thanks Halena!
Haha, with the last two mild summers we probably will have come kind of crazy heat wave this summer! Glad to hear about the Warmly Yours…we love ours and have never had any issues!
so do I benjamin, and im sad to say i have lost that battle long ago! congrats guys! this is the best diy project ever.
Congrats! I saw you mention up above links for other bloggers who are expecting. I really like this blog, her post yesterday was on visualization during the actual labor and her exercize routine during pregnancy. http://www.housetweaking.com/
Dang- you escaped our X-ray vision! You’re going to love parenthood – best design project you’ll ever work on!
Remember the video you posted the other day where Felix was pushing Bailey around? Tell Felix karma is coming his way.
HA!
Our daughter was born 8/1 (07) and I moved here from OK at seven months pregnant. June/July here was cooler than April/May in Lawton, so you’re absolutely right. Ahh, memories!
Woohoo guys! Great news. Like others, can’t wait to see what you have planned for your abode to accommodate the wee lil’ one ๐
Congratulations! The best project ever.
Yay congrats! Looks like you’re going to be needing that extra space in the basement.
Congratulations Zerby’s! I bet Bailey will be photobombing baby pictures like he does the home improvement picture. Congratulations!
Ahhh Congrats!
Congratulations! A designer baby LOL!
You are in for the ride of your life….. Have fun!
Congratulations,from Spain.
The best blog ,the best house, un saludo y felicidades desde Espaรฑa.
Congrats! We just had our first baby last week! I’ll tell you though, it was quite the adventure finding well designed items for the nursery on a decent budget – no ouef cribs for this family. We pulled it off though – everyone seems to like it and most seem to think it ‘should be in a magazine’.. heh. More so, it is hard to find things that you will use, but can be folded up to be stored away so you can maintain a somewhat uncluttered existence.
Congrats and hope all goes well! Enjoy the pregnancy, get your sleep while you can, it all changes sooner than you’d like.
A huge congrats. Just wanted to add that these little “marshmallows” who arrive and capture our hearts and turn our worlds upside-down have a way of making things matter not so much anymore. That is to say that you will be so in love, tired, worried, exhausted, captivated, and proud that a few toys on the floor will seem no big deal. Having watched the care you have taken with your house, I can only imagine how wonderful you’ll be with your own little creation!
Very cool (and nice idea w/ the sign)!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Congratulations!!!
AAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I am clapping at my desk like an idiot. I am so happy for you both!
Aww, thanks! (I’ve totally done that before too…)
Aww, thank you so much Tara for the sweet comment. It’s normal for our house to have random things scattered about on a day-to-day basis so hopefully we’ll be prepared. With a small house it will be difficult, but we’re up for the challenge on minimizing the “stuff”. =)
Thanks Gavin, I’d love to see how your space turned out! We’re definitely in the same boat (although you know I love those Ouef cribs!).
Probably. Bailey is actually really good with babies and little kids but I’m not so sure about Felix… =)
you never can tell with cats. our older cat is pretty fussy and not very sociable, and we thought she’d be a problem with the baby, but she lets the little one (now 2.5) totally maul her and lay on her and pull on her. it’s amazing really. i’ve seen animals that didn’t tolerate visiting kids totally take to a new baby in their own family.
Congratulations! What a cute way to announce it! I’m looking forward to seeing your minimalist take on all of the “required” baby gear.
Ahhh! I’ve been waiting for this post to appear! Congrats again you two! Can’t wait to greet Zerbebe to the world this summer!
That’s gonna be one chic baby. Congrats!
Congratulations – way to pack in the projects for 2012 (j/k)!
Don’t be surprised if Felix wants to cuddle with Zebebe when s/he is sleeping…it’s a warmth/fluffy blankie thing. Bailey might actually get a respite!
Congratulations. Where you might put kids was the one thing i was wondering about your house. I’ll be interested to see the transformation. I wouldn’t buy a rocker its nearly the first item people get rid of.
Congratulations! Mies was really talking about baby stuff when he said “Less is more.”
So happy for you guys! Love your blog it really inspires our southern home. Can’t wait to see what you do to the flex room. I’m sure I’ll be pinning your nursery like a crazy woman. Hopefully we will have a little sprout (been trying for 2 yrs) of our own one day and we can share our nursery room designs to. ๐
Thanks Cate, totally agree!
Aww, thanks Bonnie!
Since I’ve been following all your fab renovations and dog/kitty videos and pics (love all!)…Can’t help but wish you both much happiness with the arrival of Zerbebe!! (I wish I could transplant a house like yours to my neck of the woods in MI!) Upcoming posts should be fun!
The biggest congrats. My girl is 4 months old and it goes, as they say, go by in a flash.
Thanks Meghan, I’ve really enjoyed reading your posts pre and post baby!
Woo hoo! You guys will continue to inspire everyone by adding a pimp-a$$ nursery. Cheers!
Congratulations! This is your best project yet!
[…] of all, a huge thank you for all of the congratulations and well wishes for our big news!ย We’re excited to share this journey of how we transition to a family of 3ย while staying in […]
Congratulations! I’m expecting my second and there are some awesome modern style baby furniture lines. Most super pricey unfortunately but gorgeous. Check out muu cribs, dwell bedding, and if you want to splurge, the Blu dot walnut (Eames inspired) rocker at Velocity is surprisingly comfy
Well done. The ultimate DIY. xx
Congratulations!! We just had our first and we’re adjusting in our small house, baby stuff is cluttering but some of it is invaluable for your sanity! I suggest a bouncy seat, swing and rock n play (for your bedroom – small, not too low, great if baby has reflux and inexpensive)
I’m a little late on this, but congratulations! Your life is changing, but only for the better. ๐
Thanks Jules!
Thanks Irene! I know one of our challenges will be how to minimize the stuff while not forgoing what will be good for our sanity (even if it is brightly colored and cheesy)! =)
Oh yeah…we’ve had no problem liking all the super spendy stuff so far! We’ll definitely be trying to find the balance between “buy as little as possible or use hand-me-downs” and “buy good-looking, high quality stuff that will last forever”. =)
Make sure you check the Monte out in person. I agonized about gliders vs armchairs and I was obsessed w the Monte, but once I tried it out I realized its very narrow–good for nursing if that kind of set-up ends up being comfortable but not for snuggling. We ended up w a wide comfy armchair (the Karlsbad in white Grann leather from ikea) plus an ottoman. I nursed on the couch w a nursing stool for my feet, and that chair is so awesome for reading together and snuggling before bed. The child (17 months) sits in it by himself to read, too!
excellent point, it’s funny because I’m the one who likes the monte and lauren not so much, of course I just want a snuggle chair;)
Congrats on the future little addition! Sorry I’m so late in commenting but I’ve been on leave with my own newborn the past few weeks and out of touch with reality (aka-blogs). Thanks AC and congrats on your newest addition! yay! congratulations to both. will the flex room be the future nursery?
