From chezerbey to Studio Zerbey: The blogging journey of two Seattle residential Architects

Back in 2006, we bought a 1910 craftsman-style home in Ballard, Seattle. Like many older homes, it needed a lot of love and a lot of work. Over the next six years, we poured our nights and weekends into remodeling it, an experience that shaped how we live and affected how we design for our clients today.

During that process we started a blog called chezerbey (our playful twist on “chez Zerbey”). What began as a way to document our renovation projects quickly grew into a community of design-minded readers who followed along with our adventures in small-space living, modern updates, and creative problem solving. Some of our very first Studio Zerbey clients originally found us through the blog including our first client project in Hawaii!

As our architecture practice grew and as we became parents to three kids, blogging slowed down. But we never stopped valuing the connections it created. With our most recent Studio Zerbey website redesign, we decided it was time to bring the blog back. We migrated the Chezerbey archives here so everything now lives under the Studio Zerbey roof.

Looking ahead, we are excited to share more than just project updates. Our blog will cover topics such as:

  • What to expect when working with an architect
  • How to start a remodel or custom home project
  • Behind the scenes stories from Studio Zerbey projects
  • Updates on how we’ve adapted our home over the years for our growing family

Our goal is to make architecture approachable and useful. Whether you are researching how to hire a residential architect, exploring custom home design ideas, or curious about natural modern living, we hope this blog becomes an informative, inspiring, and sometimes humorous resource.

We have always believed in being transparent about our process and in sharing both the challenges and the wins. That authenticity shaped Chezerbey and it continues to shape Studio Zerbey. We are looking forward to writing again, this time with a focus on how our design experience can help homeowners create spaces they truly love.
