About Us
Studio Zerbey is a Seattle-based residential architecture and interior design studio founded by architects Lauren and Kyle Zerbey. With over 20 years of experience, we design custom homes, remodels, and additions throughout the Pacific Northwest, from Alaska to Hawai’i. Our work blends modern design with natural materials and daylight to create homes that are personal, timeless, and connected to the land.

Our Approach
We are approachable, collaborative, and detail-oriented. We listen first, ask good questions, and design homes that respond to each client, their land, budget, and lifestyle. From early consultations and design concepts through final details and furnishings, we guide the design process and advocate for our clients during construction so each home is cohesive, personal, and built to last.

Our Philosophy
Good design enhances daily life. We believe homes should feel intentional and livable as well as beautiful. Our work is modern but not trendy, efficient yet personal, grounded in the landscape and adaptable over time. We draw inspiration from the people we design for and their land, informed by Scandinavian and Japanese design traditions and the lineage of West Coast modernism.

Lauren Zerbey, LEED AP, CSBA
Principal Architect

Lauren is a licensed architect and co-founder of Studio Zerbey. She graduated at the top of her class from Oklahoma State University in 2004, earning the AIA Henry Adams Medal and second place for design in her final studio. She began her career at Johnston Architects, focusing on residential design before launching Studio Zerbey with Kyle in 2012.

With two decades of experience, Lauren has designed custom homes and remodels throughout the Pacific Northwest, with a particular focus on sustainable, site-responsive design. Early in her career, she also chronicled their 1910 home remodel on the widely read blog Chezerbey which was featured in national design publications and offered a behind-the-scenes look at their design process. Clients value Lauren’s collaborative approach and her ability to create spaces that are efficient, functional and beautiful.

Kyle Zerbey, AIA
Principal Architect

Kyle is a licensed architect and co-founder of Studio Zerbey. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture in 2004, graduating second in his class with the AIA Henry Adams Certificate of Merit and receiving the Top Designer Award for his final design studio. Before establishing Studio Zerbey with Lauren in 2012, he gained experience at Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and at Balance Associates (now Prentiss Balance Wickline), where he worked on custom homes that emphasized natural modern design and careful detailing.

Over the last 20 years, Kyle has led Studio Zerbey’s out of state custom homes from ranging from waterfront residences and steep-slope sites to complex remodels across the West Coast from Alaska to Hawaii. During the “down to the studs” remodel of his own family’s 1910 home, his work was documented on the blog Chezerbey, which gained national attention and highlighted the couple’s hands-on design approach. Clients appreciate Kyle’s calm leadership, problem-solving skills, and his ability to transform challenging sites into thoughtful, enduring homes.

Bethany Davies
Architectural Staff

Bethany grew up in central Pennsylvania in her parents’ grocery store turned photography studio. After earning a bachelors degree in interior design, she moved to Buffalo, New York to study architecture and lake effect snow and earned a masters degree. Bethany moved to Washington in 2013 and has been working on custom homes and major remodels since 2015. She was previously a member of the World Trade Center Redevelopment team and developed a line of area rugs for Stark Carpet. In her free time, she enjoys knitting and dawn patrol hikes with her pup Tex.

Gus Zerbey
Office Dog

Gus joined Studio Zerbey in 2019 and although his opinions on architecture are limited, he brings a youthful energy to the office. When not asking for pets, he can usually be found napping under a desk.

We are always looking for architects or designers to join our team, working on custom modern homes and whole house remodels. If you are interested in employment opportunities, please email us at employment@studiozerbey.com

“We will be forever grateful to Studio Zerbey Architects who helped us plan and design our whole house remodel.

What started out as a vague idea to improve our house became a solid project that turned out more amazing than we could have imagined.”

“The Zerbey’s were wonderful to work with.

We worked with them on a “down to the studs” kitchen remodel. They listened to our needs and ideas and seamlessly incorporated into the design while coming up the ideas we could not. By re-positioning doors and windows and re-configuring the layout without adding square footage the existing space was drastically transformed into a beautiful and functional space. They were responsive and professional, yet relaxed enough to understand life with children and how to make a remodel happen with a 4 year old in the picture. We would highly recommend them to anyone and hope to work with them again on the next phase of our house remodel.”

“I hired Studio Zerbey to design the remodel of my veterinary hospital.

While the project is not very big in square footage, it is highly complex from a technical standpoint and also very challenging with regard to the permitting process. The design concept that Studio Zerbey came up with is amazing and the solutions to the various challenges are very creative. They do a great job in explaining design concepts to you, the client, using high-tech 3D computer models.”

“It is not often when a professional firm exceeds a client’s already sky high expectations. But such was our experience with Studio Zerbey.

Although our project was very modest in scale — an 800 square foot getaway cabin — not so insignificant were the Olympic rainforest and flood-prone site conditions. Our constrained budget and very compressed time schedule presented further challenges. Studio Zerbey treated our project like it was the most important project ever. Their attention to detail was phenomenal, and Kyle and Lauren hit an absolute homerun with the cabin’s design. To say that we are exceptionally pleased and satisfied is just not saying enough!”
