Lauren is a licensed architect and co-founder of Studio Zerbey. She graduated at the top of her class from Oklahoma State University in 2004, earning the AIA Henry Adams Medal and second place for design in her final studio. She began her career at Johnston Architects, focusing on residential design before launching Studio Zerbey with Kyle in 2012.
With two decades of experience, Lauren has designed custom homes and remodels throughout the Pacific Northwest, with a particular focus on sustainable, site-responsive design. Early in her career, she also chronicled their 1910 home remodel on the widely read blog Chezerbey which was featured in national design publications and offered a behind-the-scenes look at their design process. Clients value Lauren’s collaborative approach and her ability to create spaces that are efficient, functional and beautiful.

Kyle is a licensed architect and co-founder of Studio Zerbey. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture in 2004, graduating second in his class with the AIA Henry Adams Certificate of Merit and receiving the Top Designer Award for his final design studio. Before establishing Studio Zerbey with Lauren in 2012, he gained experience at Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and at Balance Associates (now Prentiss Balance Wickline), where he worked on custom homes that emphasized natural modern design and careful detailing.
Over the last 20 years, Kyle has led Studio Zerbey’s out of state custom homes from ranging from waterfront residences and steep-slope sites to complex remodels across the West Coast from Alaska to Hawaii. During the “down to the studs” remodel of his own family’s 1910 home, his work was documented on the blog Chezerbey, which gained national attention and highlighted the couple’s hands-on design approach. Clients appreciate Kyle’s calm leadership, problem-solving skills, and his ability to transform challenging sites into thoughtful, enduring homes.

Bethany grew up in central Pennsylvania in her parents’ grocery store turned photography studio. After earning a bachelors degree in interior design, she moved to Buffalo, New York to study architecture and lake effect snow and earned a masters degree. Bethany moved to Washington in 2013 and has been working on custom homes and major remodels since 2015. She was previously a member of the World Trade Center Redevelopment team and developed a line of area rugs for Stark Carpet. In her free time, she enjoys knitting and dawn patrol hikes with her pup Tex.

Gus joined Studio Zerbey in 2019 and although his opinions on architecture are limited, he brings a youthful energy to the office. When not asking for pets, he can usually be found napping under a desk.
We are always looking for architects or designers to join our team, working on custom modern homes and whole house remodels. If you are interested in employment opportunities, please email us at employment@studiozerbey.com
