The weekend is officially over and we are happy to report that we were able to cross a few more things off the pre-demo list. Kyle made some major progress on the front porch – most of the trim is up and the siding is painted (teaser photo below). We’re loving how the white trim and fir look against the “soot” paint color (Benjamin Moore). We hope to finish the painting this week though we may hold off on the finishing touches for now (carpet tiles and custom storage bench). It just seems silly to get everything perfect when we’re only a few weeks away from completely gutting the room on the other side of the wall. In other news, the big purge of 2010 is finished and today I donated a carload of clothes, books and misc. items. (That’s one carload of stuff that we don’t have to make room for in the basement!) Progress continues, less than four weeks till demo day.

What are you demo-ing? OOOOoooh. Soot is lovely.
We are prepping to demo our kitchen, dining and living room!
I also love the soot. You may have answered these questions previously but, is it hot in the summer and do know how your neighbors feel about the bold choice?
Hi Meghan, we painted last fall so we haven’t had our first summer with the new paint color yet! However, it doesn’t get too hot in Seattle so we’re not expecting any problems. As for the color choice, our neighbors love it! There are several other houses on the street painted rich colors so it fits right in. Plus, it is about 100x better than the before (white and teal!) so everyone was more than ready for a change. Our goal was to do something modern while respecting the character of the house and we’re really pleased with how it turned out.
Thanks for the reply. Ugg. Wish that I was not so worried about the heat factor. We have a 110 year old bungalow in SLC and it is currently a light grey and I wish I was brave enough to take the plunge (we are repainting in the next couple of months…).
