Wallingford Kitchen Remodel
Recently completed, the kitchen of this 1970’s house is in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle. An awkward layout with insufficient storage, we redesigned this space to open up to the adjacent living spaces and added a large island with tons of storage and a gracious work space. To keep things visually light and open, we minimized the amount of wall cabinets and utilized open shelving for everyday dishes and frequently used items. As a means to defer costs, the owners elected to keep some of the existing appliances (fridge and dishwasher) knowing that they could easily swap them out for newer versions when they were ready. Kudos to the homeowners, who managed construction (and did a good chunk of the work themselves) on a very tight schedule and budget. This project is the first phase in a larger plan to remodel and potentially add an additional story to the house. As is the case with many of our remodel projects, we first created a holistic plan and had the existing structural system evaluated to make sure future work wouldn’t negatively impact plans for the kitchen.
